My name is Jon Borland, and I’ve always been fascinated by sound; specifically the way that sound can unobtrusively bring a story to life. I began my career as a multimedia artist for a software company in Colorado. This is where I was when Vancouver Film School announced a YouTube contest where judges at the school would pick the top 10 and then allow the YouTube community to vote on the top 3. My film “Imagination” made it into the top 10, and the resulting scholarship allowed my wife and I to move to Vancouver for an intense year of training in the VFS program “Sound Design for Visual Media.” This experience affirmed my desire to work with sound, and provided the necessary skills. Currently I am interning at The Detroit Chop Shop, under Ric Viers, and working on several sound effects libraries.
