My name is Jon Borland, and as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by sound. I specifically love the way that sound can unobtrusively bring a story to life. I began my career as a multimedia artist for a software company, but after a YouTube competition earned me a scholarship to Vancouver Film School, I decided to switch career paths. An intense year of training in the VFS program “Sound Design for Visual Media,” studying under amazing instructors and getting real world experience working on several films and animations, affirmed my desire to work with sound and provided me with the necessary skills. From Vancouver I moved to Detroit to intern at The Detroit Chop Shop, under Ric Viers. During my time there I worked on various projects including several sound libraries, a web series, commercials and a few films. I am currently living in the San Francisco Bay area and working at Skywalker Sound.
